There’s a strong Italian mark in the victory of the Baltic 130 My Song that has just been recognized with the 2017 International Superyacht Society Awards as the best sailing yacht in the” 24-30 m” category. Along with Perini Navi’s great success, this prestigious accolade is a further proof of how active and essential Italy is in the international sailing scenario.
With her 39.9 meters of L.O.A, the boat is the outcome of a fruitful collaboration between two great names of contemporary yacht design: Nauta Design and Reichel Pugh. The Milan-based studio created the general concept, the exterior and interior design. My Song represents the fourth collaboration between Baltic Yachts and Nauta Design and between the owner, Pierluigi (Pigi) Loro Piana, and Nauta Design.
Hull lines, hydrodynamic appendages and sailplan were, on the contrary, drawn by Reichel Pugh who was also responsible for the structural engineering, together with composite Gurit experts for some selected components. During the award ceremony hold during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the jury has also acknowledged the key role played by Nigel Ingram, who was the Project Manager for the owner, in this important and complex project.
My Song represents today a real masterpiece of construction, performance and end use: her all-carbon hull is suitable for both demanding races and comfortable cruises. One of the key elements of this project is represented by displacement: with her 40-meter length and just 105 tons, she is a surprisingly lightweight boat. Quiet and well-insulated from vibration, she is also one
The exterior look is defined by very aggressive lines where the deckhouse profile is low slung and partially hidden by 30 cm-high gunwales which provide crewmembers with a double foothold when heeling. When cruising, they also offer additional seating with the handrails acting as backrests. In the section where gunwales reach the deckhouse windows, a four-metre long freeing port has been included to allow as much natural light in as possible while providing views out to sea.
Below deck, a large salon welcomes guests with a conversation area and a dining zone. The interior includes accommodation to 9 guests, including the owner. Positioned forward of the mast, the master suite includes a lobby, two bathrooms and a studio which can be converted into an additional guest cabin when necessary. Two guest cabins, both with en-suite bathroom, are located aft of the saloon.
