Compasso d’Oro, born in 1954, is the oldest and most prestigious international design award. It includes thirteen different thematic areas , such as “Design for mobility: individual and collective means for air, nautical, road mobility”. This year, the winner is Baglietto 44 Monokini, accompanied by Ferrari FXX K (designed by Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari Design and Werner Gruber).
Monokini has been designed by Francesco Paszkowski , while intetiors are by Alberto Mancini. The engineering naval architecture study of the yacht – which can host 10 passengers in five different cabins on the lower deck and 8 crew members – is by Baglietto. Monokini is made of aluminium, with a length of 44 metres and a width of 8.30 metres. Two MTU 3600 hp engines allow a maximum speed of 30 knots and they are combined with four stabilizers. It’s the first time Compasso d’Oro has been awarded to a motorboat. The Jury has chosen Monokini “for the reinterpretation on an archetype and a maritime tradition combined with the introduction of innovative technologies”.e”.
Interiors are clearly inspired to aviation design. Different materials – sycamore maple, steel and leather – are combined in soft refined cream, beige and grey shades. Furniture is custom-made: light grey Rubelli linen curvy sofas, steel glass and nabuk leather coffe tables, dark wengè and brushed-steel dining table, silk and nabuk leather shantung.
