THE 90-YEAR HISTORY OF FRAUSCHER WRITES THE FUTURE OF RECREATIONAL BOATING

A 1927 picture showing the second Frauscher generation in front of the first Vienna-based production site.

90 years have gone by since 1927, when the Frauscher shipyard was founded in Vienna. The goal was to design and build sailboats and –  only few years later – motorboats able to leave a mark. Over these 9 decades, the Austrian shipyard has changed its skin but not its soul. From a small artisan company, the brand of Ohlsdorf has quickly become an international leading company which currently operates in over 20 countries around the world. The key to such a success is the important turning point that the shipyard experienced at the beginning of the third millennium in terms of design and concepts. After it had started to build electrically-propelled wooden boats in 1955, Frauscher was the first boat manufacturer which gave a modern rendering of them within an aesthetically well-characterized context able to show itself in an innovative contemporary version without abandoning the classic style of small open motorboats, traditionally rich of well-conceived finishes and unconventional elegant details. Furthermore, the growth of the brand has also been achieved through the great work and efforts made in Italy by Cantiere Nautico Feltrinelli, official importer of the boats manufactured by Frauscher.

The continuum between the past and the bright present is the plan where the future history of the Austrian boat manufacturer develops. It is therefore not coincidence that Frauscher likes summarizing its business vision with these few words: ” history writes future“, a sentence that encloses the travel over its 9-decade life, made of moments and creations which represent real milestones in the international recreational boating and now celebrated at the anniversary party. Like, for example, the original Olympia-Jolle, also known as O-Jolle, a boat designed by Hellmut Wilhelm E. Stauch in occasion of the Olympic Games of Berlin in 1936, whose first model was built and launched in 1933 by Frauscher (the class counts about 500 members active in the world still today). Or the glorious H-Boot, a 8.28-metre racing boat built in 1967, arrived in 1980 and still sailing through 5,000 samples all around the world (in 1982, Hans Frauscher won a class world championship with one of these boats.

Processing stage in the shipyard.

Of course, the birthday party was joined by some more recent models, such as the 1414 Demon, the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air, which will be presented next summer in the Spanish island of Mallorca – where Frauscher España is based. ” Today we’re still the most innovative family-run boat manufacturer in Europe”, Frauscher Co-CEO Stefan Frauscher claimed to underline the interest raised by the long history of the company he currently manages together with his brother Michael.

The shipyard today

“The keys to our success that have allowed us to become a growing brand in the world can be found in both our company history and our innovative future-oriented force” Stephan said. ” We like to think of ourselves as engineers of emotions and we constantly try to improve our boatsMichael Frauscher adds. “Our customers don’t expect only a linear catchy design but also excellent quality. We meet these requests and try to make the time spent on board as pleasant as possible”. https://www.facebook.com/tuttobarche/videos/1516116765074012/
