KARNIC SMART ONE 48: SEA TRIAL

We already talked about the entrance of the Cypriot brand Karnic in the Italian market some weeks ago and we also told you the complete sea trial of Karnic 22 SR. Now, it’s the turn of the smallest model of the range: Smartone 48, an extremely functional and high-performing boat, less than 5 metres long. An ideal means to fish, work or have a daily trip. Anyway, the price is really tempting: from € 9,000 for the hull, € 17,000 if combined with a Selva 40 Hp XSR outboard.

Founded in 1993, Karnic produces about 300 boats a year, with a product list including 8 ranges ( Smart, Open, Storm, SL, Bluewater and Cruiser) and 30 models, from Smartone 48 (also available in version 55, 5.65 metres long) to 2965 Cruiser Line (10.30 m long). The mass production of the group allows good quality and affordable prices.

The boats has a very simple design, with a traditional central console (available in three different sizes) and a seat equipped with retractable backrest. The version we tested had two fore lockers: one for the anchor and an additional one, very large, for safety equipment. You can even choose to have two additional lateral lockers which can covert into a support for a sunbathing platform.

We particularly appreciated the excellent non-slip surface, the particular astern composite stepladder, light and very robust at the same time, and the clever lateral fishing poles holder inside the bulwarks.

What was our first impression once we got on? A great static stability. The two upper chines along the hull work well once the crew has got on and there are no annoying rolls. Our second sensation? We found the choice not to full 1the boat too much good, since on-board circulation is excellent despite the small size of the vessel, especially thanks to her large gangways.

Our test showed the good performances of this boat, too. The 40 HP of Selva Dorado XSR proved to be sufficient to push Smartone 4.8 at a maximum speed of over 28 knots, not bad if we consider the size of the boat and her 26-knot-cruising speed.

The hull is quite narrow, fast and reactive: we particularly liked the boat’s stability and the total absence of vibrations. On the contrary, the pilot’s seat is too low when seated, too unstable when standing. But the yard promises that this problem will be solved  on next models.
