Italian boating is experiencing an intense rivalry between two trade associations, Ucina and Nautica Italiana. A very annoying dangerous conflict which, however, has the advantage to offer many new reliable data about international and Italian market’s trend.

If Ucina will reveal its official data at next Genoa Boat Show, Nautica Italiana has just presented an interesting research at Cannes Yachting Festival.

According to Deloitte, worldwide boating market is worh 17 billion euros (boats with a length above 2.5 m), with about 700 thousand units. Motorboats and sailing boats respectively represent 48% and 12% of the market, while ribs are 2% of it. Superyachts (above 30 m) are worth 2.9 billion euros in total.

48% of the market is represented by North-America, followed by Europe (20%).

Italy can count on an overall production value of 1.7  billion euros (reference year: 2014), which means 10 % of the worldwide market. It’s the second producer in the world after USA and before UK ( 6.9 %), Holland (6.5%), Germany, France and China.

2015 marks an increase of 12 % in the world in terms of value (19 billion euros) and 14% in terms of units (800 thousand).

After a long crisis ( from 2009 to 2015: – 8.8 % a year), megayachts have increased by 6.6 % compared to 2014. Italy represents 42% of this market and 35 % in terms of value.

Finally, the second-hand market is worth about 14 billion euros in terms of asking price in 2014: 2.6 billion euros for boats with a length above 30 m, 7.4 billion euros between 12 and 30 metres and 4.2 bilion euros for boats under 12 m.
