Ocean Alexander 90R : revolution by name, revolution by nature

There’s no denying it, the Ocean Alexander 90R is a motoryacht in the spotlight at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. A huge responsibility, considering that the “parterre” of the show consists of over 1,400 boats.

After all, when one of the top 5 motoryacht and superyacht builders announces a launch of this scale and, on top of that, it calls the new range “ Revolution Series”, expectation is at the highest level. When you consider that the whole project was developed by Evan Marshall in co-operation with Arrabito Naval Architects, the two gurus of naval design and engineering, you can easily understand how excited we were when we got aboard the most anticipated yacht of the boat show.

Discovering the Ocean Alexander 90R

Even before climbing on board we realize the scale of this innovation. Indeed, we only need to look at the yacht to understand how successful the project is.

Despite the large volume of this boat, the overall impression is absolutely light and lets you immediately realise the essence of the project.

A yacht that seamlessly merges not only with the water, which is an element shared by many other crafts, but also with air and light that, in this motoryacht, flows freely to become an integral part of the overall design.

This is already perceptible from the beach area that, designed by a highly experienced hand, encloses the synthesis of this concept at once while offering a unique sensory experience. From the two sofas, situated at sea level, we can admire the starry sky from a position for which the definition of “privileged” would be simplistic.

I climb the steps and get the cockpit. From here, walking across the large saloon, the view embraces a galley that, thanks to its layout, becomes an integral part of the main deck, delimiting the space with endless elegance. When necessary, the galley can be closed to provide guests with greater privacy.

However, it’s as we walk through the door of the saloon that we can fully understand the design value of this yacht. Side full-height glazed surfaces make this area look like a real penthouse. It is hard not to be fascinated by the way Evan Marshall has decided to communicate with light, with the scenarios that, from time to time, the owner will choose to frame by simply moving the motoryacht from an anchorage to another.

Together with the large entrance from the cockpit, two double glass doors, symmetrically positioned on each side of the saloon, enable the yacht to communicate with the air that, in this environment, circulates freely and, again, connects guest with this precious element.

Elegant finishes and refined wood essences, evident everywhere, merge with function specially designed for all those who find pleasure in living onboard their own yacht.

Walking in the starboard corridor, we find the full-beam master suite that uses the over 6 meters of width to create a large space that, thanks to two side windows, goes beyond the physical borders of the cabin itself.

Moreover, the raised position offers an external view that, as in the saloon, enables this area to project itself outwards and integrate with the landscape.

On the lower deck, we find, in the same position than the master suite, a VIP cabin that, in terms of size and finishes, is a real second master suite. Two equally refined spacious double cabins complete the night area and bring the number of cabins envisaged by this yacht version to four.

Walking up two levels, we reach the upper deck. Here, the driving console benefits from an excellent position as well as a unique and perfect 360-degree view to sail in total safety. But it’s only when we turn and leave the pilot house behind that we are impressed. The sensation of space, open and infinite, is amazing.

All furniture is designed in order not to obstruct the view that, in this environment, stretches from one direction to another thanks to windows and the clever use of glass doors that almost disappear, eliminating the separation between interiors and exteriors.

It is not necessary to underline the presence of high-quality leather and wood essences, as this is part of the building style of the shipyard. In contrast, it is important to observe that every single detail of the Ocean Alexander 90R, small or apparently insignificant, is designed and built in order to achieve a final result that leaves you breathless.

Conclusion

Yachting design doesn’t innovate regularly but tends to follow a specific trend for many years, creating models that, even if different from each other, are clearly sons of the same “generation”.

Sometimes, maybe too rarely, someone has the courage to dare and experiment new lines, new interpretations of the symbiotic relationship between the owner and his own boat. It’s exactly in these cases that we finally have something new, something exciting.

And this is the case for the new Ocean Alexander 90R that – I realize right now – not only revolutionizes the range of the shipyard but (finally) brings a wind of innovation to the whole market.
