Sybaris, the new 70-metre ketch by Perini Navi, picks up two awards at International Superyacht Society

Fruitful participation for Perini Navi and its 70-metre Sybaris at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Equipped with an aluminum hull, the ketch received two important awards from the International Superyacht Society (ISS), the global association for the superyacht industry founded in 1989.

At the gala organized during the American boat show, Sybaris – which takes her name from Sibari, the Achaenan colony in the region of Calabria which became famous for its tryphé or dolce vita – , received the award for the Best Sailing Yacht over 40m after conquering the jury of international experts that preferred her to Svea, the J-Class yacht designed and developed by Hoek Design from the original 1937 drawings by Thore Holm who had conceived this representative of the historic class of sloops competing at America’s Cup in the ’20s and ’30s.

Featuring two masts and custom built for the American lawyer Bill Duker, Sybaris is currently the largest sailing ship never built in Italy. A ketch with two carbon masts: the main one is 70 metres high while the mizzen mast reaches “just” 60 metres in height.

The sailing plan is totally automated and sails can be controlled easily through the use of consoles in the cockpit. More specifically, the main sail closes up within just 180 seconds. Naval architecture and exterior design are both the outcome of the collaboration between Philippe Briand’s design studio and Perini Interior Design departments.

The result is a yacht that, as the owner himself explained on the occasion of the launch, aims to circumnavigate the globe with local experts on board in addition to become a reference point for international yachting design.

The final result achieved with Sybaris was so successful that, during the same ceremony, the 70-metre ketch was also awarded for the best interior design, created by Peter Hawrylewicz and Ken Lieber di Ph Design .

“ We’re pleased and proud to win these two awards which are dedicated to creativity and innovation, which are two features that fully describe Perini Navi’s boats. Our yachts have always represented excellence in terms of technology, performance, design and comfort“, state Lamberto Tacoli, Chairmain and CEO of Perini Navi.
