Southern Wind celebrates its 25th anniversary with three new entries which will be launched between the end of this year and 2017 (they are all “under construction” in Southern Wind’s South African yards and all already sold): RP 90 (you can see her rendering in the picture above; she well be launched next December), SW 96 (she will be launched in April 2017) and SW 105 (to be launched in October 2017).

SW 96, overall length: 29.23 m; beam: 6.95 m; draugth: 3.4 m – 5.4 m (lifting keel) or fixed keel; displacement: 54.6 tons; engine:  STEYR SE236E40 231Hp@4000rpm

SW 96 and SW 105 are two superyachts which will be included in a mini-series.
Two cruiser-racers designed by Farr Yacht Design and Nauta Design with the aim to import some typical features of racing boats on fast luxurious yachts.

SW 105, overall length: 31.97 m;  beam: 7.32 m; draught: 3.65 m – 5.6 m (lifting keel) or fixed keel; displacement: 68t; engine:Cummins QSB 6,7 MCD (305 hp @2,600 rpm)

RP 90 is a custom project required by an old client
and commissioned in 2015. The project – the shipbuilder explains – has allowed Southern Wind to specialise in advanced production processes and the use of some very innovative efficient materials and equipments. An experience enjoyed by new SW 96 and SW 105, too.

Southern Wind RP 90. Custom project of the South-African yard

RP 90, an extra-modern high performance blue water cruiser with a length of 27.5 metres, has prepreg carbon hull, deck and bulkeads and advanced composite sandwich interiors. Displacement is just 48 tons. Carriages and stoppers are made of titanium and ceramic spheres which reduce frictions. The hydraulic system uses high-efficiency engines and PLC technology. The yachts has a 5.8-metre-long lifting keel with a draught which varies from 5.8 to 3.8 metres: so, in addition to a stable and powerful sailing area, there’s the possibility to enter in harbours and bays where draught is not particularly deep. Interiors include a shipowner’s cabin, two double cabins, an astern crew zone with independent access to the boat systems and deck. The project is by Reichel Pugh, while interiors have been designed by Nauta Design.
