GOODBYE TO MARIO AMATI, THE FOUNDER OF ITAMA

Many yachtsmen knew him unwittingly. Mario Amati, whose palindrome is Itama, died at the age of 83. He was the founder of Itama in 1969.

His open boats have been the symbol of the fast and unmistakable Mediterranean motorboat. At their debut, they had been very successful, copied and imitated in all the possible ways. Their inventor had decribed them in the best way: ” Itama boats don’t change every year to be trendy…. I make boats for all those who want to live well and better because a boat is a symbol of happiness”.

Blue hulls, white decks, powerful engines and huge fore decks. It was impossible to not notice them, born as the symbol of a boating (and of an Italy) which doesn’t exist anymore but always the symbol of the best Mediterranean boats.

Itama became a part of Ferretti Group in 2004 ( bought by the fore owners, the Opera Group, and three excellent partners, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Giovanni Melagò and Alessandro Benetton) by maintaining all its identity, even when it started to produce bigger and bigger models, like the 75-foot boat, built in the establishment of Mondolfo.
