RS21 Italian Championship: the regatta season comes to an end in Porto Rotondo

The RS21 Team Race Italian Championship wrapped up yesterday, May 4th, in the stunning setting of Porto Rotondo. The event was organized by the Circolo Velico Nox Oceani Agonistica of Porto Rotondo, with the support of the Sardinia Region, Marina di Porto Rotondo, Yacht Club, and the Porto Rotondo Consortium.

Three days of fierce racing saw the best Italian crews competing, all admired by the thousands of spectators who flocked to Porto Rotondo. The event attracted a large crowd, thanks in part to the simultaneous Sardinia Boat Show being held nearby.

Unlike traditional sailing races, Team Race involves high-intensity tactical maneuvers, making the competition particularly captivating for those watching from shore. This aspect had a significant impact on the Porto Rotondo crowd, especially among the younger generation.

As usual, Circolo Velico Nox Oceani placed environmental respect at the heart of its activities, with a particular focus on the sea, teamwork, and fair play—values that were expressed in various moments, both on land and during the races at sea.

The three days dedicated to the RS21 Italian Championship were therefore a celebration of great sportsmanship and friendly competition between athletes and the many guests. It was a highly successful event, concluding with the award ceremony at the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo, which is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

The top three teams in the Under 25 category were awarded, as well as the winner of the Senior category. The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Porto Rotondo Consortium, Marina di Porto Rotondo, the III Zone of the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), CIPNES for the Sardinia Boat Show, and, of course, the president and commodore of the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo.

The organizers and attending authorities expressed great satisfaction with the success of the event, which was not only marked by the athletic competition among the participants but also by the significant human and cultural value that initiatives like this can create among enthusiasts and beyond.

At the end of the event, the Circolo Velico Nox Oceani announced the scheduling of a new Team Race event for the RS21 class, which will take place in Porto Rotondo next September.
