Every year, Superyacht Report publishes its “Superyacht Global Orderbook”, a global analysis of big boats (over 30 metres of length) trends. It is a very important document and the most reliable analysis of the economical trend in a field difficult to quantify.
According to Superyachts Global Orderbook’s data, Italy is the number one in the world on the basis of the main criteria used to measure the “importance” of big shipbuilders. First of all, the Gross Tonnage index. The current portfolio of Italian producers is 32 %, while the percentage of orders is 42.7%, that is 4.7 % more than in 2015. This is one of the most important data because it tells a good increasing trend.
Also in terms of total length (so if we imagine to line all the yachts of over 30 metres produced in the last year), 41.7% of them has been made in Italy.
As regards the delivered units, between 2011 and 2015, the Italian percentage is 37.2%. In 2016, on 424 yachts of over 30 metres under construction, 177 (average lenght: 44 metres) are Italian.
All in all, Italy represents more than one third of the superyachts global production.
