ROUND ITALY RIB TOUR: ACT 2

The first stage of the Round Italy Rib Tour was concluded last April 3rd. As planned, Emilio Galli, left from Genoa last April 1st, arrived in Porto Ercole after 188 miles sailed on board a Zar mini 16 rib powered by a Suzuki Df 40 outboard.

Sea conditions were perfect in the first two days but much harder yesterday, when Emilio faced a 20-knot wind and very rough sea. “Sea got rough yesterday afternoon and it remained beam the whole time; however, I never had any problem. Both rib and engine performed well and no contingencies occurred”.

Average fuel consumption was great: just 8.5 litres per hour.

In Porto Ercole last night, Alessandro Dilelio took over from Emilio Galli and sailed off this morning,  April 4th, to Civitavecchia.

Good weather conditions have convinced Alessandro to sail to Fiumicino: “ Sea conditions were so excellent – the pilot told us – that, at first, I managed to maintain a 25-knot speed. Later, when a little swell appeared, I decreased it to about 20 knots”.

In this 63-mile route, too, the Suzuki Df 40 Hp outboard fuel consumption was great, maintaining an average of one liter every 2 miles.

The next pilot change is scheduled in Naples, where Alessandro Dilelio is expected to arrive on Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile, both the Zar mini 16 and the Suzuki outboard have been controlled and they are both in fine shape. The adventure organized by Club del Gommone di Milano to show how safe simple sailing is possible goes on.

Stay tuned for the next pilot change.
