Yachts are dream items. And it’s strange to think how the concept of dream itself is often repressed by the respect for traditional beauty standards, very often too similar to themselves. It’s as if yachting industry is inevitably forced to express creativity moving inside preset, certain, conventional, classic limits.

Like when we were child and teachers forced us to colour inside the lines. As if there’s a only one way to draw a flower, a face, a sea. As if that horizon line has to to appear in that position, as if it is otherwise impossibile to observe it from a different angle.

Fortunately, however, genetics – sometimes unconsciously – drives us to break the pattern and experiment. This way, new perspectives come out and new and, above all, different beauty standards are established.

I think about that when I get off the stern of the Azimut Grande 35 Metri while my mind is still immersed in the thoughts that a visit on board this superyacht can ignite in anyone who, like me, shies away from half measures and is open to change.

35 meters are a large sheet to colour, especially if you want to colour outside the lines; however, you have to stop and look at the main deck to really understand the extent of the change that designer Achille Salvagni has introduced with this yacht.

Interiors

Light and slinky curves fuse into an interior architecture that reproduces the movement of the sea through a combination of sinuous and elliptical lines. Few straight lines frame, or simply, support cabinetry masterpieces which, in their turn, evoke and enhance the overall environment motif.

On the main deck, the master cabin is located in the forward section; full-beam, it seems to be suspended between the sky and the sea, including an exclusive instant balcony that, thanks to new sophisticated mechanism, removes all visual barriers and offers a 360-degree panoramic view.

But it’s only coming the steps of the spiral staircase connecting all the decks of the Azimut Grande 35 Metri that we can take our definite journey into the design which permeates this boat. Below deck, we look up and we immediately realize the obsessive care devoted to every single curve and element.

The slinky profile of the large central hall emphasizes the overall motif of the boat, connecting all the entrances of the four guest cabins – two Vip suites with double beds and two twin-bedded cabins. In the bow, in a large space that is completely separate from the guest area, the quarters for the six members of crew consist of four cabins, four bathrooms and a crew mess/dinette.

Exteriors

Designed by world renowned architect Stafano Righini, exteriors are definitively coloured outside the lines. The Azimut Grande 35 Metri features an unconventional lounge in the bow which, benefiting from the trapezoidal profile of the latter and a mechanism which completely hides the area reserved for mooring maneuvers, offers a surprising beach club area fitted with sofas, a sun lounging area and a hydro massage tub.

Almost invisible when seen from outside, a spacious raised sundeck is the second Righini’s stroke of genius which, of course, doesn’t compromise the overall exterior design of the boat. It is accessible from the upper deck through a dedicated staircase, without which it might look like a simple extension of the main deck’s T-Top.

The raised pilot house is masterfully implemented in a line that, despite the abundant spaces on board, remains fully dynamic, giving the overall profile of this superyacht a surprising sporty character..

With a maximum beam of 7.5 meters, the boat also includes a side garage that can accommodate a 5-meter-long tender and a big jet ski while the stern remains completely unencumbered. A pivoting transom hatch, in fact, drops down to create a surprising beach area fitted with a wet bar that, nestled between the two boarding ladders, delimits the 12-square-meter platform dedicated to the contact with the sea.

Azimut Grande 35 Metri – Building details

Building technique is the heart of the concept. Benefiting from an extensive use of epoxy resins and carbon fiber, the superyacht translates its saving of weight into additional volumes, equipment and spaces.

The Azimut Grande 35 Metri therefore offers the same confort and amenities of a larger yachts yet at lower maintenance costs.

Designed by Pierluigi Ausonio in co-operation with Azimut Research & Development Center, the “Displacement to Planning” hull combines the comfort typical of a displacement hull with the performance of a planing hull  and a wave piercer to improve fuel  efficiency. Powered by twin MTU 16V 2000 M93 2,400hp engines, the Azimut Grande 35 Metri can deliver a displacement mode speed of 10-12 knots, a semi-displacement mode speed of 21 knots and a top speed of 26 knots.

The hull is laminated with epoxy resins while superstructures are all built in carbon fiber with subsequent lighter weight, lower barycenter and greater seaworthiness.
