BLACKCAT: THE FAST FULL CARBON CATAMARAN OF THE FUTURE

Mitch Booth is a professional sailor, who took part to Olympic and Ocean races, American Cup and many other important international competitions, becoming world champions many times.

We met him along the quays of Monaco Boat Show. Like all the other visitors, we was admiring yachts and superyachts but, above all, he was there as the founder of BlackCat Superyachts. During his interesting press conference, he presented both his new ambitious project and the partnership with Baltic Yachts, one among the most important yachting brands. Baltic takes its place alongside other two BlackCat’s partners, North Technology Group ( North Sails, Southern Spars and Future Fibers) and M2 Atelier, an international architecture studio .

The project of the catamaran is something really innovative. This is a full carbon 50-metre racing boat able to reach a cruising speed of 25-30 knots. Thanks to the reduced draught, BlackCat will be able to move far closer to the coast (the catamaran will have two keels and draught will be 2.40 with raised keels, 4.50 m with lowered keels). BlackCat will be the biggest catamaran never built in carbon.

A catamaran of this size – 50.44  m long and 18.50 m wide – can be compared to a 70-metre yacht. Compared to a multihull, lists are minimal. Aboard, comfort is ensured: huge windows, boundless spaces and a breath-taking modern design anywhere.

The astern cockpit platform is boundless, two real staircases lead to the beach club and the fore cockpit, equipped with a luxury swimming pool, is very large, too.

Of course, many details can be tailor-made.

The project is by Malcom McKeon, a very experience designer who has signed over 200 boats, about 50 of which with a length of over 30 metres.

  • "Live a comment" and " Like all the other visitors, we was admiring yachts and super yachts" makes me think that we need a proof reader next time. Anyhow I love Cats and would be able to live on this baby :^]
