DRUNK PIRATE ON BOARD. “RUDE” AWAKENING FOR LIFEGUARDS ON FORMENTERA ISLAND

3 mins read

Once it was necessary that people should have a numerous cold-blooded crew and a lot of experience to climb on board others’ boats. Today, times have changed and it can happen that a drunk man occupies your dinghy and even attacks you.

The incredible episode is shown by a video published by many international websites, including the Italian Corriere della Sera and the British Daily Mail.

A fine morning on the island of Formentera, where boredom isn’t certainly a stranger (in summer, at least), has a curious surprise for some tourists on the beach: a man is sleeping on a dinghy owned by the beach staff.

Lifeguards are immediately warned in a general atmosphere of incredulity. The “pirate”, probably unconscious because of the effects of drinking, is a man of unknown identity and nationality and sleeps blissfully disregarding the shouts all around him.

How to move him out of there? Throwing him overboard is impossible. It’s a physical matter rather than an etic one. The only way possible is to awake him and invite him to reach another place where to sleep.

Finally, the method chosen is maybe unorthodox but certainly efficient: two buckets of water, presumably unpleasantly cold. The explosive combination of drinking effects, rude awakening with buckets of water and an unknown place can’t fail to result into the only possible consequence: the man gets furiously pissed off! Even if 100% wrong, the man in the video doesn’t seem to be very clear-headed.

The tourist, in fact, violently reacts against two members of the beach staff and falls back into the sea with a clumsy dive but the courage of a man who is not afraid to drink a little of water.

Fortunately, the fight doesn’t last very long and everybody quickly calms down. Everyone – the dinghy, the tourists and lifeguards, of course – is safe. However, it was a rude awakening for both the man awoken with a bucket of seawater and those who have been forced to fight against the largest and most unfriendly fish never seen on board.

After all, the island of Formentera is a destination where to have fun and, apparently, not only during the hot Spanish nights.
