EXHIBITION OF DÜSSELDORF – ARCADIA SHERPA, THE KINGDOM OF SPACE

Arcadia Yachts has waited for the Exhibition of Düsseldorf to present its new entry level boat, called Sherpa, a 16,80 metre open deck. It is a first two-cabin boat, which will be followed by a second model next spring. Its two main features – in addition to the hull designed by Arcadia and Volvo Penta – are space and flexibility. Thanks to its 5,60 metres of width, Sherpa offers big stowage volumes anywhere and a 13 square metre garage. But above all, it has large and comfortable open-air areas like bigger models.

For example, cockpit is as large as that one in Arcadia 85. The flexibility concepts doesn’t apply only to the three available layouts (with one, two or three cabins) but also to many possibile configurations. In this sense, Sherpa offers two different superstructures: open deck and salon deck.

The first version, with a totally empty main deck, is destined to a shipowner who desires a one-cabin day-boat.

On the contrary, a shipowner who wants a family boat for longer cruises, will choice the Salon deck version because it offers many indoor areas and it can have two or three cabins.

In the one-cabin version, there is a bathroom and sizes are really unusual for this category of boat.

Not only the cabin, a real suite, but also the hall equipped with sliding panels.

The versions with two and three cabins have an astern guest cabin. All rooms are 2 m high.

With Sherpa, Arcadia presents an innovative concept of flying bridge. By borrowing a closing mechanism from cars planning, the bridge becomes convertible, with lateral windows which close by lifting up to the hard top. This way, all the deck area becomes habitable in any condition, whether it is hot (thanks to air conditioned) or cold (thanks to the heating system).

As we have already said, there is much space and stowage volumes can be always modulated. Stowage volumes make this boat particular and the name of the boat comes back to the legendary Sherpa guides.

As regards perfomances, the most innovative element is the NPL hull, a specific hull named after the national  Physical Laboratory of England where many tests have been made in order to determine its shape for the best length-width ratio in terms od hydrodynamic efficiency. This advanced hull, combined to light superstructures, allows very satisfying performances with low-power engines.

With Volvo Penta IPS 600 engines, the boat reaches a maximum speed of about 25 knots and a cruising speed of 20 knots. At 20 knots, fuel consumption is about 97 l/h, while at 12 knots and full displacement it decreases to 43 l/h.

Finally, Sherpa is equipped with very modern solar cells between the external surface and the internal double pane panels.

The system produces the necessary energy (4Kw) to power many equipments and devices – such as fridges, water systems, toilets, lights, A/V, electric devices – and charge batteries.
