Leggi l’articolo in italiano

This morning, while it was geting out of the harbour of Santa Tereda di Gallura, Giraglia, a ferry of the Moby Lines Company, got stuck. The reasons of the accident are not clear yet, maybe a human mistake or a mechanic damage. The ferry leaves at 10:00 this morning to Bonifacio but the manoeuvre to go out of the harbour wasn’t successful and the ship had its poop stuck in the rocks.

None of the passengers ( about 70 people, among which a class and some tourists) and crew members (about ten people) was injured. The Port Captaincy of La Maddalena has rescued everybody and it has secured the ship. The ferry, according to the captain of the rescue operations (which have involved even a team of scuba divers), hasn’t receive any leaks on the hull which might compromise its stability or provoke polluting liquid losses. However, some floating systems have been installed to contain eventual spills. In the afternoon, a tug boat from Porto Torres should free Giraglia from the rocks. Meanwhile, investigators will open an inquiry on the accident to understand its reasons.

Giraglia was already at its second daily linking service between Santa Teresa di Gallura and Bonifacio (after the first one at 08:30 am from Bonifacio). A replacement motor vessel, Bastia, has been sent to reactivate the service.

The video below, filmed by the Port Captaincy, shows the rescue of the passengers.
