SANLORENZO AND VOLVO PENTA TOGETHER FOR THE SX LINE: ATTRACTIVE “CROSSOVER” MOTORYACHTS

Cannes Yachting Festival is the perfect setting to launch the best novelties of yachting market. And yacht-builder Sanlorenzo has chosen this international appointment to present the new SX88, the first model of the innovative SX line and, above all, the first yacht powered by Volvo Penta.

The series has been developed to offer a “crossover” yacht and combine the best elements of a flybridge and compact explorer yacht.

“The vision of SX comes from deep knowledge of life on the water”, explains Luca Santella, Design Development Manager at Sanlorenzo, “I imagine people sharing with family and friends all the possibilities of space to live really close to the water, with no barriers between the boat and the water itself”.

The new SX88 puts together large comfortable spaces entirely devoted to conviviality without never compromising the typical performances expected from a fast displacing yacht. San Lorenzo Yachts has indeed decided to equip the yacht with three Volvo Penta D13-IPS1050 engines which will enable the boat to sail at a cruising speed of 20-21 knots.

The choice of this motorization comes from the guarantee of high performances both in terms of acceleration and top speed. Furthermore, the new IPS diesel system guarantees excellent fuel consumption, low emissions, reduced noise and vibrations, and more on-board space than a traditional inboard shaft installation.

Furthermore, IPS system is a complete package that connects all boat’s elements, from helm to prop. The innovative Electronic Vessel Control system and a user-friendly joystick enhance the maneuverability of the boat.

Equipped with a twin-entry turbo and supercharger, Volvo Penta package also guarantees an efficient response even at low rpm range.

Massimo Perotti, Chairman and Executive Office Manager at Sanlorenzo, explains the choice of this motorization: “We felt that we wanted to be innovative with the propulsion system, so we chose Volvo Penta IPS because we think this is a smart way to go. It’s silent, there is reduced vibration, it is easy to install, and fuel consumption is very efficient. We also wanted to create something modern, more young and dynamic, and easy to drive without bow and stern thrusters. With just a joystick, you can easily maneuver and dock the boat”.

Volvo Penta, too, through its Sales Manager for Italy and Spain Nicola Pomi, has expressed its satisfaction: “San Lorenzo has assessed that many customers want both the comfort that provides with plenty of on-board space and the fun they can have with a fast boat. Volvo Penta IPS is perfect to offer both. It’s exciting that Sanlorenzo has chosen to establish a collaboration with us for the first time and we look forward to work with them for the development of the SX line”.

The SX88 is not a boat for everyone but adjusts herself to different needs. ” This boat is for connoisseurs – claims Mr. Perotti – for people who like sports, nature and to go boating and want to interact with water. The SX88 can be filled with a lot of extra equipment, like a bigger tender, a jet ski and different items for windsurfing and diving, so that a family and friends can really enjoy their contact with water”.
