THE BIGGEST CRUISE SHIP IN THE WORLD STARTS TO SAIL

Cruise ships were already suspected to be a sort of big floating amusement parks. With Harmony of the Seas the matter becomes more evident. The new cruise ship built by Royal Caribbean is already famous because it is the biggest cruise ship in the world ( even it is only some centimetres longer than its sister, Allure of the Seas) and numbers are impressive: it is 362 metres long ( if somebody was able to place it vertically, it would be higher than Eiffel Tower), 47 metres wide and with a weight of over 220,000  tons. It costed about 1 billion Euros. Moreover, its cabins on its 18 decks can host about 5,500 passengers and over 2,000 crew members.

These days, the ship has gone out of the  shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, for its last sea trials before the official launch. It will sail in the Mediterranean Sea by replacing Allure of the Seas. Royal Caribbean has decided to built Harmony in order to enlarge its Oasis fleet, that is the ships with the greatest number of entertainment and amusement activities. Among the main attractions, there are seven thematic areas, a real park with thousands of plants, a zip-line to fly at 25 metres of height, an ice-skating rink, a waves-silulator to surf, a theatre to see Grease and other musicals, over 20 restaurants and coffee bars (including the bionic café with robot-barmans), wellness centres, children plays and virtual balconies in some cabins.

But the most interesting attraction on Harmony of the Seas is the astern water amusement park, where the bravest will have the possibility to enjoy “Ultimate Abyss“, some water slides which pass through 10 decks for a total height of 45 metres.
