The Viking 42 Open exhibited by Viking Yacht Company at the 2017 Miami International Boat Show, exploits the popular hull of the successful 42-foot fisherman series.
Built on a mould milled by a numerical control machine operating on 5 different axis, the hull is available in different deck and superstructure layouts and it has been also adopted by the 42 Convertible, from which the Open version differs in terms of pilot station and interiors arrangement.
The shipyard based in New Jersey has a wide range of boats of this type, from 37 to 92 feet, in addition to a motoryacht line which includes two models (75′ and 82′ respectively).
In the Viking 42 Open, the entrance below immediately opens to a dinette on the left and a full-equipped galley along the starboard side.
Furnished with a double center-island bed and equipped with a bathroom with shower, the master cabin is positioned on the bow. Unlike the rest of the range, this model is fitted with a Cummins QSC 600 HP engine and a Zeus pod transmission system. This solution has allowed to save a lot of space where to accommodate engine room, transmission system and propeller.
Thanks to a system of engine controls operated by a joystick, the boat ensures easy handling. The engine room is accessible by a hatch positioned on the walkway of the wheelhouse – for daily checks – while a command deck hydraulic lift ensures total accessibility to the propulsion system.
The reduction of the technical spaces has resulted into the possibility to have an additional cabin with twin beds abaft the living area. Interiors are available in other two layouts with a second bathroom or even a third cabin.
However, the standard version, too, can host 6 beds in total thanks to the two berths located abaft the command deck.
The pilot station, two steps higher than the cockpit (as usual in the Viking 42′ series) and furnished with two seats, can be entirely closed for the best protection against atmospheric agents.
The infused laminate hull of the Viking 42 Open is available in different colours.
