Dörries Yachts has just presented the project of a new 62-metre-long “yacht support vessel” called YSV62. Support vessels, also known as shadow boats, are ships designed to sail close to mega yachts during their ocean cruises and carry all means to entertain guests on the main boat. So, without wasting room aboard, these vessels are used to house tenders, ground-based vehicles, helicopters, sailing boats, jet-skis and much more: the only limit is the owner’s fantasy (for both the two boats…)
Hence, YSV62 will accompany some mega yachts with a 300-square-metre surface on her main deck and enough room for a submarine, a diving centre, a spa area with fitness equipment and some guest cabins.
From a technical point of view, the advanced bottom allows a maximum speed of 18.5 knots, thanks to 2 x 3045 HP engines. Cruising speed is 17 knots, while range is 6,500 miles at 17 knots. There’s even the possibility to install a third engine for a 20-knot-top speed. Moreover, YSV62 can be equipped with a hybrid diesel/electric propulsion system and a ICE-certified reinforced hull to sail colder seas.
YSV62 is able to replenish the provisions and water supplies of the main yacht with extensive storage for provisions available in cooled and freezer areas , as well as cooled waste storage.
A yacht support vessel is a good solution to have more storage area during cruises, so if you didn’t know where to put your helicopter, now you know what to do.
