Greenline 42: first shots on the water for the new icon of responsible yachting

Consistency and a clear overall vision are two qualities that Greenline Yachts certainly doesn’t lack. On the contrary: the Slovenian shipyard was founded almost twenty years ago with the goal of making boating more responsible without sacrificing style, and every new model takes another step in that direction.

The pursuit of more sustainable yachting does not compromise either the high level of comfort or the overall elegance. The first images of the new Greenline 42, presented in Düsseldorf last January and now shown underway, make that immediately clear: the aerodynamic lines, generous volumes and the significant photovoltaic installation on the roof all stand out at first glance. All elements that reaffirm the brand’s DNA, for cruising that is responsible, but also smart, practical and decidedly enjoyable.

Greenline 42: design by Marco Casali

The Greenline 42 bears the signature of designer Marco Casali, following the successful collaboration on the Greenline 58. In fact, part of the inspiration seems to come directly from that model, with the 42 giving the impression of being a larger yacht thanks to its clever use of space.

Another key reference point was the successful Greenline 40; originally, in fact, this 42 was conceived as its successor, an idea later set aside given the continuing strong interest in the 40.

The new yacht was therefore developed starting from the strong points of the Slovenian shipyard’s most appreciated models – as Casali pointed out, the intention was “to reinterpret the Greenline 40 without giving the impression that everything was ‘new’” – and from the desire to meet owners’ expectations.

New models are rare for Greenline Yachts because we are proud of the longevity of our projects – said Alessandro Lorenzon, Global Business Director and Chief Experience Officer – We gathered feedback from our owners and, by analyzing their experiences, clarified a few aspects. They wanted more space in the cockpit to relax, higher speeds and a more modern design language. The new Greenline 42 offers all this and much more”.

Flexible and airy spaces, for a true floating home

A yacht designed to be lived in, with layouts that can adapt to the mood of the moment. The images show large convivial areas, starting with the table accompanied by settees at the stern, as well as some interesting features dedicated to fun and relaxation: among the options there are a retractable aft platform and a small beach area for relaxing in the sun.

Another highlight is the possibility of eliminating any boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces by fully opening the aft doors and lowering the galley windows on both sides. This way, anyone at the counter preparing lunch—or why not an aperitif—is far from isolated from those relaxing on the outdoor sofas.

And it is precisely the galley that deserves a closer look: from the electric oven to the induction cooktop, from the refrigerator to the freezer, all the way to the 400-liter freshwater tank, everything here is designed to make the Greenline 42 feel like a luxurious floating home. Contributing to this impression is the generous storage capacity, another hallmark of the Slovenian shipyard.

Below Deck: two cabins and an additional, optional bathroom

Going down the steps there are two cabins: the owner’s cabin is located forward, while the guest cabin – available either with a double bed or twin singles – is positioned to port. An interesting option is the possibility of adding a second bathroom, ensuring maximum privacy for the owner.

The interiors are dominated by elegant finishes, with two different “feels” chosen by the designers: modern oak and honey teak, creating refined and contemporary living spaces. Enhancing the atmosphere below deck is the good natural light, ensured by the numerous windows.

Sustainability without compromise: energy management on board the Greenline 42

Up to 4.5 kW of energy during the warmest hours of the day: the 10 photovoltaic panels mounted flush with the surface and perfectly integrated into the design of the Greenline 42 can actively power the onboard electrical systems, starting with the galley already mentioned and, of course, also contributing to propulsion.

Any excess energy, for example during production peaks, can be directed into the 22 kWh battery bank, which can be increased up to 66 kWh.

In theory, this yacht could therefore cruise silently and with zero emissions for as long as 48 hours – or even more – while still running the air conditioning in the cabins.

Hybrid Propulsion

Like every yacht from this shipyard, the Greenline 42 can also be equipped with conventional diesel engines: specifically, two 250 hp Yanmar units. However, the true spirit of the brand is expressed through the powerful 23 kW electric motors positioned between the diesel engines and the propeller. On their own, they can push the yacht up to 6.5 knots, allowing for completely silent—and naturally green—cruising.

To further increase sustainability and range, the batteries are recharged by the energy produced by the engines during diesel navigation. It is in this mode, of course, that the Greenline 42 reaches its top speed of 25 knots (around 3 knots more than the Greenline 40 with the same power, mainly thanks to the qualities of the hull).
