Marcopolo MP12: versatility sets sail

There’s a moment when every nautical project stops being a design promise and becomes reality: it’s the moment it meets the water. For the new Marcopolo MP12, that moment has finally come after its preview at the recent Boot Düsseldorf, marking its official entry into its most authentic dimension — navigation. At sea, far from the spotlight of boat shows, the forward-thinking vision of Rosario Alcaro and the Aschnez group truly takes shape, pointing toward a contemporary, dynamic kind of boating designed for those who see the sea not as a simple destination, but as a complete and immersive experience.

The new MarcoPolo MP12 in detail

One of the distinctive features of the new Marcopolo MP12 lies in the remarkable versatility of its layout, capable of shifting from an open configuration to a distinctly more cruiser-oriented setup at any time thanks to a system of structural modules designed to be installed even at a later stage. This is a unique feature for a boat of this type, offering the advantage not only of adapting to the owner’s different cruising needs and various markets, but also — and above all — of extending the boat’s lifecycle while preserving its value over time.

The cruiser setup is the one chosen for the first unit of this model, characterized by the presence of large panoramic windows throughout the entire area beneath the hard top. Starting from the stern, the scene is dominated by the outboard configuration — the only option available for the range — with the possibility of installing up to three 450-horsepower engines.

The wide side platforms replace the traditional stern platform, while the cockpit is protected by a solid tubular structure that also incorporates gates to secure access to the sea, along with a rollbar defining its perimeter. A solution that is both stylistically successful and highly effective in terms of safety, allowing for a clear and secure separation between the technical engine area and the living space.

It’s in the cockpit that the versatility of the project truly stands out. Fold-down bulwarks expand the available space, creating a flexible open-plan area. The large aft sunpad, which can be oriented toward the dinette thanks to a reclining backrest, integrates with an extensive seating system and an extendable table that multiplies the possible social layouts.

Completing the area is a second sofa that can be enclosed by a glass partition, forming — depending on the backrest position — the seating for a second covered lounge area, also equipped with two individual armchairs and an additional table.

Everything is served by a fully equipped bar unit with a galley corner, sink, and refrigerator, positioned aft of the helm seats and facing a futuristically designed dashboard. The entire area is enclosed by large windows, consistent with the cruiser configuration of this version of the Marcopolo MP12. The side door on the starboard side makes movement on board easier, ensuring that the walkways are accessible and safe even for less experienced users.

Below deck, the layout confirms the project’s pragmatic approach. You’re immediately welcomed by a configurable dinette area, while forward there is a large double bed served by two spacious wardrobes. The bathroom features a separate shower, while two additional single beds are located aft.

Materials and exclusive tones

The new Marcopolo MP12 also stands out for the exceptional attention its designers have given to material selection, favoring an approach that balances performance with sustainability.

From a chromatic and décor perspective, the Marcopolo MP12 is defined by the light, airy tones of the lower deck, where fine woods, fabrics, and premium materials enhance the craftsmanship and the unmistakable design of its forms. Deck and hull are finished in the technical color “Steel Grey,” complemented by a wide black band, specifically chosen to highlight the yacht’s technical character.

Steel Grey, paired with the ‘total white’ hardtop, creates an iconic color combination inspired by the off-road vehicles of the 1970s — reliable machines that gradually evolved toward more comfortable solutions, much like the early SUVs that later became luxury off-roaders”, explains project designer Roberto Delfanti.

For the upholstery, the choice fell on Space Shell, a latest-generation material used in the aerospace and motorsport sectors. Thanks to its ability to limit heat transfer, it ensures superior comfort even under direct sunlight, significantly enhancing the onboard experience. The material has been strategically applied in high-contact areas such as sunpads and seating, guaranteeing comfort and performance even on the hottest days. An optional composite mat in Evercore with cork particles is also available: eco-friendly, non-slip, durable, insulating, and easy to clean.

The interiors of the Marcopolo MP12, on the other hand, are finished in Dinamica, a technical automotive-derived covering appreciated for its lightness, durability, and tactile quality — a symbol of contemporary design that combines elegance and functionality.

MarcoPolo MP12: innovation, comfort and performance

“In line with a constant focus on sustainability and efficiency, the construction of the hull has moved away from traditional materials in favor of next-generation composite solutions – emphasizes Roberto Delfanti – The structures are made of recycled PET, a thermoplastic material that combines lightness, durability, and reduced environmental impact. The partition bulkheads and some furniture components use honeycomb polypropylene, a high-tech material derived from the aerospace and automotive industries, which combines rigidity and flexibility within a cellular structure, optimizing comfort while reducing weight”.

The hull of the brand-new Marcopolo MP12, designed using advanced CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis, has been developed to deliver a well-balanced trim and outstanding stability even at high speeds, allowing safe navigation at up to 40 knots. In particular, the three-step hull profile optimizes flow and reduces drag, ensuring smoother acceleration and lower fuel consumption.

Construction, overseen by Rosario Alcaro, uses high-quality fiberglass weaves capable of ensuring structural rigidity and mechanical strength without compromising overall lightness. On the Marcopolo MP12, the pursuit of the perfect balance between weight and strength goes even further with the use of carbon fiber in the pillars and hardtop: a technical choice that lowers the center of gravity, reduces weight aloft, and contributes to the vessel’s overall stability.

Every single detail of the Marcopolo MP12 — from materials to hull geometry — is the result of careful three-dimensional analysis of weight distribution and structural loads. The goal? Achieving the perfect balance between strength, efficiency, and lightness, values that define the DNA of every model from the shipyard.

In conclusion, we can therefore say without hesitation that the Marcopolo MP12 is not just a new model, but the concrete expression of a design philosophy that brings together exploration, technology, and versatility in a refined and distinctive platform.
